Not on your Nelly

Not on your Nelly

Here we have another from my garden. Clematis Nelly Moser. Early large-flowered hybrid, grows to a height of three metres (10ft) after two years.
'Nelly Moser' is a mid-sized, deciduous climber with glossy, dark-green leaves, it bears large pink flowers with a darker bar down each petal and in the middle is a boss of dark red anthers which produce an attractive wispy seed head after the flowers fade.

Not on your Nelly - an old cockney rhyming slang saying meaning 'not on you life' or 'no way !'. It derives from the Rhyming Slang 'Nelly Duff' an invented name meaning 'puff' or 'breath (of life)'.
"Nelly Duff" was a fiction, a made-up person - invented purely for the purposes of rhyming slang.

A little joke for you.

A few minutes before the church services started, the congregation was sitting in their pews and talking.
Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the back entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate.
Soon the church was empty except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence.
So Satan walked up to the man and said, 'Do you know who I am?'
The man replied, 'Yep, sure do.'
'Aren't you afraid of me?' Satan asked.
'Nope, sure ain't.' said the man.
Don't you realize I can kill you with one word?' asked Satan.
'Don't doubt it for a minute,' returned the old man, in an even tone.
'Did you know that I can cause you profound, horrifying agony for all eternity?' persisted Satan.
'Yep,' was the calm reply.
'And you're still not afraid?' asked Satan.
'Nope,' said the old man.
More than a little perturbed, Satan asked, ' Why aren't you afraid of me?'
The man calmly replied, 'Been married to your sister for 48 years...

I hope you all have a great weekend.

~ Stone Chapel Flowers

it was cool
there
in the stone chapel
to one side were
several unadorned, wooden pews
to the other side was
a doorway,
with a wrought iron gate,
through which the afternoon sun
filtered in.
through the gate,
you could see
a set of stone stairs,
but you could not see
from whence they came
nor where they went
a breeze,
ever so slight,
touched my cheek.
i lowered my eyes
to the stone floor,
worn smooth
by the believers,
and then lifted my gaze to
a vase of flowers
positioned
on the wooden alter,
so true,
and so straight.
i was a stranger
in this land
and all thought
emptied from my mind
i could hear
the waves of air
rushing
into my lungs
and rushing out again
and then my breath too
vanished
